Deadline Alert for TIER Workshop!

Application deadline for the
Teaching Integrity in Empirical Research (TIER) Workshop is Friday, September 6, 2013.

The workshop will be held on October 18 - 19, 2013, at Haverford College, near Philadelphia, PA and led by Richard Ball, Associate Professor of Economics and Norm
Medeiros, Associate Librarian, both of Haverford College.

The workshop is aimed at instructors of statistical methods course in any of the social sciences. Attendees will learn how to assemble documentation for a variety of projects, starting with a very simple case and then addressing a variety of challenges that commonly arise. Broader conceptual and pedagogical issues related to documentation and replicability of empirical research will be discussed. Tools to assist in data management will be demonstrated.

Medeiros and Ball developed this technique and have written and given presentations on it, including a webinar on it and this Workshop.

The guiding principle behind the protocol is replicability: The documentation should be complete and transparent enough to allow an interested third party to easily and exactly reproduce all the steps of data management and analysis that led from the original data files to the results reported in the paper. We will describe what the protocol entails, and as an example we will show the documentation that an economics major assembled for his senior thesis last year.  We will also discuss a one and one-half day workshop we will be offering in October, aimed at instructors who are interested in teaching this research documentation protocol to their students.

This webinar will be presented by Richard Ball, Associate Professor of Economics, Haverford College, and Norm Medeiros, Associate Librarian, Haverford College.  For more information, see www.haverford.edu/TIER

The webinar is free and open to all interested.  Please feel free to forward this invitation.
