Lagos to Overtake Cairo as Largest African City

According to The Economist, Lagos will grow to be the largest African city in 2013, overtaking Cairo by some 0.3 million.  While this shows the suspected shift from the ends of Africa to the center of the continent, the combined GDP of Cairo, Johannesburg, and Cape Town are still greater than Western and Eastern Africa combined.

In addition, Kinshasa will grow to have 15 million people in the next decade and Lagos will have 16 million in the same time frame.  Due to their rapidly expanding population, these growing cities will be be forced to create jobs with little infrastructure.  In addition, over half of their inhabitants will be under 18.
