Why the employment situation is not disappointing

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has published an “Employment Situation Summary” for May. The nonfarm payroll employment has increased by 54,000. The number of employed in the U.S. increased by 105,000; from 139,674,000 to 139,779,000.  These low numbers have come as a surprise for many experts, who predicted 170,000 (http://online.wsj.com/mdc/public/page/2_3064-446888.html) for the nonfarm payroll employment in May. Therefore, the market and general public feel some disappointment> Should they?
In the previous post, we demonstrated that the level of labor force in the U.S. has been experiencing an unprecedented fall since 2008. Figure 1 reminds us that the reason for the fall is not the current financial crisis and recession but rather a new trend in the rate of labor force participation, LFP. This is not a short- or mid-term transient process but the change in the long-term tendency. The LFP had been growing between 1955 and 2000, when it reached its peak. One can consider 2001 as a pivot point manifesting a fundamental change in the labor market behavior in the U.S. It is worth noting that the change in LFP behaviour started ten years ago, not in 2008. (The reader might be interested in the explanation of this phenomenon. We had accurately predicted the 2010/2011 fall in the LFP many years before it happened.)
As a result of the new long-term tendency, one should not expect the same pace of employment growth as it was between 1960 and 2000. In addition to the fundamental shift in the secular LFP evolution, one should not forget another source of employment growth – the level of working age population. Figure 2 depicts monthly increments of the working age population, i.e. 16 years old and over.  One can clearly see that the influx of the population has been decelerating since 2000 as well. The deep negative corrections in Figure 3 are associated with annual revisions to population controls. It is not wise to wait that the growth in employment will exceed the influx of working age population in the situation with the falling LFP.
It is important that even decreasing unemployment can not compensate the effects of LFP and population. Figure 3 shows the evolution of monthly increments in employment, E, after 2003 with MA(12). One should not expect that E will be growing at a pace which was considered as a healthy one before 2000 any time soon. In that sense, the today’s BLS news is not disappointing. Really disappointing is the unjustified expectation of any large increase in the U.S. employment.

Skokos for Governor of Utah?

Having been highly disappointed with several of the signatures of Gov. Herbert (HB477, HB166, etc), I am looking for a replacement Gov in 2012.  One of the emerging potential candidates is William Skokos, CEO of American Resource Petroleum.  I am currently reading his book "Return to Common Sense" which I downloaded from Tate Publishing (PDF format works great on my Droid and even moreso with the 99-cent app "ezPDF Reader"; the book is also available on Amazon.)

I met Mr. Skokos at a Buy Back America gathering of an amazing lot of patriots a few weeks ago and was enthralled by his remarks.  More recently, Mr. Skokos has been a guest on the Rod Arquette Show.
Today on facebook a video was released about his views on domestic energy entitled "Utah Economics 101."  Enjoy:

How to Watch Videos on iPod and iPhone - 3 Step Guide & Short FAQ

Most people that own an iphone or ipod video know they can watch videos but maybe you don't know how to exactly. So I have written an article that will help you to learn all the ways in which you can watch videos on your brand new iphone.

Watching Movies, Sports, Music Videos or any other videos you already own:

1. The first step in watching videos that you already own is to get them on your computer. If its a dvd just pop it into your computers dvd rom drive. Next you will need to get a dvd ripper this will allow you to put the dvd movie into your computer's hard drive. This will take sometime depending on what dvd ripper you have. (If you already have the videos that you want to watch on your iphone on your computer's hard drive go to Step 2)

2. To watch the videos on your iphone or ipod video you will need to convert the videos you already have to the iphone format. For this you will need an iphone/ipod video converter or any other program that converts video files to .mp4 (H.264 encoding) because this the only format of video that the iphone/ipod plays. This will also take a while depending on how big your video file is and how good your iphone/ipod video converter is.

Now before you continue on putting the video files onto your iphone/ipod make sure all of them are in the proper iphone/ipod format. You do not need to worry about this if you used a video converter that converts videos to iphone/ipod format.

3. After you've ripped and converted all the videos you want all that is left to do is to actually put it on your iphone/ipod. This is by far the easiest step and takes the least time because this can be done right from itunes. All you need to do connect your iphone to the computer. Then open up itunes scan the video files into the itunes library and then put the videos files right from itunes to your iphone or ipod video.

The Simple Shortcut Secrets:

I will also tell your about two different simple shortcuts. These shortcuts will allow you to skip Steps 1 and 2. You will want to skip these steps because it takes a lot of time to rip and convert video files.

1. The first shortcut is that there are some websites on the Internet which allows you to download movies, sports, music videos and other videos for the iphone/ipod directly from their site for free after you pay a one time fee. The good thing about these websites is that the videos you download will already come in the iphone/ipod format. This means you do not need to rip or convert the videos which will save a lot of time.

2. The second shortcut is youtube. Youtube and Apple have devolved a close partnership. Now you can watch the videos on youtube encoded with the H264 format directly on your iphone By the end of this month youtube will have over 10,000 videos which you can watch your iphone. Furthermore you will also be able to download these videos via EDGE or Wi-Fi connection.

The FAQ

Q: Can I watch any video in any format that I own on my iPhone or iPod Video?

You can watch any video on your iPhone/iPod Video as long as it is in a certain format. For you to watch videos on your iPhone/iPod Video the videos must be in .mp4 format.

Q: Can I watch videos online on my iPhone?

The only online videos you can watch on your iPhone are the youtube videos encoded in H.264 format. There are already over 10,000 videos on youtube in this format, and they are working hard to convert many of their remaining videos to this format as well.

Q: How is the quality of videos on the iPhone and iPod video?

The quality is great on both depending on the video. If you are watching a DVD Video you will get the same quality as if you where watching on a normal television expect in a smaller screen. However in my opinion the iPhone offers a slightly better video viewing experience than the iPod video due to the larger screen

Q: Are there any sites that allow me to download and watch videos in iPhone/iPod Video format?

Yes there are many sites that offer a vast verity of movies, music, videos and other stuff for the iPhone and iPod Video.

Q: Are these sites expensive?

Most of these sites charges you a one time fee of about $50 and then you get unlimited movies, music and other downloads from their website.

Protect Your iPhone

Surely, when Apple formally introduced iPhone into the world at the end of June, many came up lining, wanting to be one of the firsts to get hold of the revolutionary cell phone called the iPhone. However, it came as it is: naked.

Apple has also created some accessories that people can purchase and enjoy together with iPhone. But if you were to shed a few dollars off your pocket, then you better buy one that will make your newly acquired phone long lasting: iPhone case.

Because iPhone now uses the touch screen technology, there's hardly any room for scratches. Yet it doesn't necessarily mean that it should remain unprotected from harm and that it still is possible to get dings and scratches.

There are about three types of iPhone cases sold today. One of them is iPhone skins. Skin usually refers to the cover that will cover the phone entirely. You can access the navigation and side buttons, screen, camera, and charger through its cutouts. Skins are flexible but rugged, thanks to a perfect blend of silicon and plastic.

What's good about skin is that they can completely protect the surface of your phone. However, if your skin is mainly made up of silicone, then it can't offer you so much just in case you accidentally drop the iPhone. The iPhone skins spells variety, you can buy them in different colors, even with some added accessories like neck straps and screen protector.

A tiny piece of silicone that protects an iPhone's front side is called a screen protector. It also possesses a circular cutout that allows you to utilize the primary navigation button, found at the bottom portion of the iPhone. You can then put a skin on top of the screen protector. However, if you want to get a good deal on screen protector, go for those that can resist dust and contain anti-glare properties. Or you can simply opt to buy an iPhone skin with a screen protector.

Lastly, there are what you call as iPhone cases and wallets. These are covers that you can attach on your jeans or on your wallets. You can place your iPhone inside them. The main difference between cell phone holsters and cases is that the latter can protect your phone even if it's not in use. Leather is a typical material used for cases and wallets. And since they come in different styles, you can simply choose what fits your personality.

Think of an iPhone case as a worthwhile investment.

A Comparison of iPhone And iPhone 3G

The movement that iPhone came into market brought a technical revolution in the cell phone market. People found some imperfections while loving it. So based on the weakness of iPhone, Apple Inc. launched the second generation of iPhone, iPhone 3G in 9th June, 2008 which had been improved in many parts. So we will make a comparison of the two generations to see what had been changed in iPhone 3G.

1. Outlines.

As we can see from the pictures that the colors of iPhone is part black and part white. But iPhone 3G is totally black or totally white. The covering of iPhone was metal while the 3G's was plastic so the 3G is a little lighter than iPhone. And about the size of two cell phones, 3G is a little bigger than iPhone which is hard to been found by eyes.

2. Main Body

Comparing with iPhone, iPhone 3G took lessons from the design of MacBook Air, so the arc on the back of cell phone made the phone looks much more beautiful. The other point was that the headphone connector that was a big problem in the past Apple products was improved. The 3.5 mm headphone jack was designed on the side of the cell phone and it makes every kind of headphones possible to be applied.

3. Networks

The difference of networks was most obvious difference of the two cell phones. iPhone did not support the 3G networks that made it a target to be criticized by the medias. This time, iPhone 3G had stepped up to 3.5G level and support WCDMA/HSDPA networks. According to Jobs' saying the speed is much faster than Nokia N95.

4. Built-in functions

Another advantage of iPhone 3G was that GPS module was added which supports the mobile navigation and location search. The camera was the same as iPhone, but for the GPS, it could provide the geographic grid of the pictures. The cell phone could record the latitude, longitude and altitude of the shooting locations. And the picture element per inch (ppi) of iPhone 3G increased to 163 ppi from 160 ppi of iPhone without any improvement of the screen and distinguishability.

5. Battery

The battery of iPhone 3G was still designed as fixed as iPhone. The standby time and speaking time of iPhone 3G had increased much by comparing with iPhone. The speaking time in 2 G networks increased from 8 hours to 10 hours and the standby time increased from 250 hours to 300 hours. But the online time, music and video playing time did not changed comparing from the past. Besides, there is a tool in the sales package of iPhone 3G to help the customers take out the SIM card easily.

6. Software

The improvement of iPhone 3G in software was effective. It could support many languages, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and other Asian languages. And it support gesture recognition. The iPhone 2.0 firmware could support AppStore software store that the developer all over the world could discharge by free or sell iPhone software through the store.

7. Price

The last difference that the customers could experience themselves was the price of the two cell phones. iPhone 3G was only 199 dollars when it first come into the market. So it was cheaper than iPhone.

All these differences put together, we could find the difference of iPhone and iPhone 3G clearly. But in all they are cell phones, though they have differences, but they would not change very much. They are Apple's cell phones.

Technology and the LGBT Business Community Come Together Like Never Before

It has long been reported on how the LGBT community tends to be early adopters of technology, starting years ago with our embrace of dial-in modem chat rooms (we can be very creative when it comes to meeting online) to where we’re at today with smart phone technology and some of the cool LGBT apps that make the gay & lesbian world just a bit more accessible as well as closer together.  But it is the trend in technology and the LGBT business community that has really come together over the last few years, with one of the highlights of 2011 being the presence of Google at the recent IGLTA Convention in Fort Lauderdale this past week.  With over 500 travel business professionals (gay and gay-friendly) in the audience, Google held everyone’s attention for almost a full hour as they presented on stage a well-crafted presentation on how Google is doing more and more each day to make outreach to and better understand the LGBT community.  With topics ranging from search engine optimization (their forte) to their most recent commercial shown recently during an episode of Glee that presents Google’s embrace of diversity and the LGBT community, their presentation was not only well received but allowed for further conversations to continue during the course of the convention which only solidified the sentiment that the LGBT business community is truly reflective of the early-adopter LGBT community at large and embracing and adopting technology in their business environment.

In fact, the entire educational track of this year’s IGLTA Convention was focused on technology and social media and how companies can leverage both to their competitive advantage.  Was this just a one-time event or is this a trend that will continue to grow in the LGBT business community at large?  I believe the facts speak for themselves.  At the recent LGBT Marketing Conference held by Community Marketing and Pink Banana Media, technology played an even stronger role in the presentations and workshops than ever before.  The strongest post-conference feedback pointed to the research analysis of Community Marketing, the social media presentation by Pink Banana Media and the mobile technology presentation by GayCities.com as the top three presentations attendees felt provided them the best value for their time attending this conference.

It appears the future only looks brighter for this trend… with technology growing in mobile, location-aware devices, the direction is going towards technology companies identifying who their top user base is and the LGBT community is coming out on the top of that list.  In Google’s IGLTA presentation, they pointed out some very specific trends in this area, including the growing use of mobile devices as the primary way people are receiving information in today’s world, to the detriment of the more traditional world of laptop and desktop computers.  In this new mobile world, short-form content is becoming more relevant (status updates and Tweets) and images captured and uploaded from mobile devices into social media are becoming the predominant way photos and video are being taken and shared today.  Using mobile apps such as Grindr to meet other gay men in a local area, or GayCities for checking in to a physical location that is gay or gay-friendly, the LGBT community has had an excellent opportunity to not only prove that certain technologies are viable for the mainstream market, but that they’re also now more versed in the technology that has trained an entire generation of new LGBT users on how the these concepts work, making them more and more ubiquitous in their everyday lives.
