iPhone Apps Go Corporate - How Big Companies Are Getting in on the iPhone App Game

iPhone apps aren't just for small development firms and gadget geeks anymore these days even big banks, retailers, and software giants like Microsoft and Oracle are getting in on the app act. Why? Not only does the next generation of consumers feel comfortable with spending much of their life online, they expect their retailer, bank, or software company of choice to offer them the freedom to do business anywhere, from their iPhone. To meet the demands of its internet and iPhone savvy customers, more and more big businesses are debuting their own iPhone apps. Here's a look at a few of them:

Microsoft's Seadragon iPhone Application.

In mid-December 2008, Microsoft released its first iPhone app a photo gallery app called Seadragon. Perhaps users were hoping for an iPhone app like Microsoft Office for the iPhone, or at least FreeCell, but Seadragon is Microsoft's toe-dipping experiment into the iPhone application pool.

Google's iPhone App

Far ahead of Microsoft (as usual), in December 5, 2007, Google released its iPhone app that, like a Google homepage, consolidated all of Google's services into one page, so that users could easily access their Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, and other services. In-line with Google's typical corporate attitude, Google's press release on this iPhone application stated that their commitment to provide "users with access to information, wherever they are is a device-independent commitment" in other words, expect to see similar versions of this app on Google's own Android phone, as well as other touch-screen phones. Target's Holiday Shopping iPhone App application

Target created a holiday shopping iPhone app that lets you browse through gifts and offers the ability to locate a store to purchase them, or buy them online at Target.com. If you don't know what to get, you can shake your iPhone as you would a snow globe (the app's intro animation), and a random gift from Target will pop up.

The Weather Channel's iPhone Application

The Weather Channel wants you to be able to know what weather conditions will be like no matter where you might be. This iPhone app allows you to get the typical Weather Channel local weather information for your city or region, but its customizable weather maps also allow you to pick multiple layers of maps, displaying radar, UV index, rain/snow fall, and more.

Oracle's iPhone App for Business People

Business software giant, Oracle, posted an iPhone app in November 2008 to allow sales managers to review quotes, approve or reject these quotes, chart sales forecasts, etc. Another Oracle iPhone application allows general managers to review expense reports, job postings, purchase orders, etc. As the business world becomes increasingly mobile and global, Oracle is one step ahead of its competitors in allowing its customers to access business information on the go. Bank of America's iPhone App Helps you Find the ATM

Remember that old television commercial for Visa, where a couple lost in the desert of some remote part of the world with no cash was met by a young boy frantically shouting, "Ateeim! Ateeim! Ateeim fix everything!" As the couple wondered who Ateeim was, the boy led them to the village center, where, miraculously, an ATM stood. With Bank of America's iPhone app, you don't have to rely upon the natives anymore to find the closest ATM. Bank of America's iPhone application will show you the nearest ATM to your location and will also allow you to check your balance and pay your bills, all from the convenience of your iPhone. Only now we need all the other banks to come out with iPhone applications so other customers can have the same easy access.

Motor fuel price to fall in the near future

Our task is to estimate relative growth in a given price with time.  We use the ratio of price index, P(t), and GDP per capita in current prices, Y(t) (the idea borrowed from V.Kossov):

Z(t)=P(t)/Y(t)

Figure 1 presents the evolution of the price index of motor fuel since 1935 (obtained from the BLS) and Figure 2 – nominal GDP per capita.   The share of motor fuel price in GDP per capita can be presented as a function of Y as well as time.  Figure 3 shows that there exist a long-term negative trend for Z(t) (notice the log-log scale) with two major fluctuations.  The trend looks sustainable and deviations seem to be of transient character.  Therefore, one can expect the fall in Z in the near future – motor fuel will be falling against GDP per capita. Oil price is likely to fall as well.  Figure 4 presents log(Z) as a function of time.
Figure 1. The consumer price index of motor fuel (not seasonally adjusted).

How Low are American Taxes?

Following up on our post from Sunday, we find another post in the New York Times Economix blog, this time from Reagan and Bush administration official (and born-again Keynesian) Bruce Bartlett, who presents information supporting the argument that the United States is a low-tax nation. Federal tax collections as a percentage of GDP are to be 14.8% this year, the lowest level in more than sixty years. They were 14.9% in 2009 and 2010. Since the end of World War II, tax collections have averaged 18.5% of GDP.

Low taxes are especially beneficial to corporations. As has been widely discussed, statutory corporate tax rates in the Untied States are among the highest in the industrialized world, but they are also riddled with loopholes. As a result, the amount of corporate taxes actually paid is quite low. At 1.3% of GDP, corporate taxes are just one-third of what they were fifty to sixty years ago and about one-third of the OECD average (see chart above).

There can be little doubt that the United States is, by the standards of its own history and its international peers, a low-tax (and low-government-service) nation. But, does Bartlett overstate the case? Perhaps. He only focuses on federal taxes. All nations collect taxes at the sub-national level as well. American state and local taxes account for approximately another 10% of GDP, above the OECD average for sub-national taxes (see the chart below - where (l) means local and (s) means state, regional or provincial taxes). Even taking state and federal taxes together, American taxes are still quite low compared to other wealthy countries, but the issue is a bit more complicated than Bartlett suggests.

Food is getting cheaper

Food is getting more and more expensive. Everybody knows that.  Figure 1 illustrates the evolution of the price index of food since 1913. At the same time, the US economy also grows including the growth in real GDP per capita which is shown in Figure since 1929 (chained, in 2005$).  One can easily estimate which of these two variables grows faster. Figure 3 depicts the ratio of CPI and GDP per capita relative to that in 1929. Overall, the food price falls relative to the GDP per capita, i.e. one has to pay a lower share of income (a fixed portion of GDP per capita)  for the same amount of food (we do not consider nomenclature and quality of food here).  Food is getting cheaper with time. It is interesting that the ratio in Figure 3 has not been falling much since 1975.

Building A Better Executive Team in Three Steps

Virgil R. Carter

Many non-profit organizations and their CEOs depend on a staff executive team to help lead the non-profit to be a consistently successful organization. The day of a “one person” leadership team, in most organizations, is long gone. Are there ways for the executive team to function better? According to an article in McKinsey Quarterly, authored by Michiel Knuyt, Judy Malan and Rachel Tuffield, “few teams function as well as they could”. The authors write that there are three important steps that can be taken for more effective executive teams. Consider the following:

Get the right people on the team…and the wrong ones off: Remember the advice to “get the right people on the bus”? The matching critical ingredient is to help the “wrong” people find a new and different opportunity that more closely fits their capabilities. CEOs are responsible for selecting the staff executive team. The authors note that this responsibility “…typically requires conscious attention and courage from the CEO, otherwise, the top team can under deliver for an extended period of time.” Without the right people, the executive team’s performance will be limited.

Ensure the team works on only what it can do: The purpose and focus of the top staff team is critical. It’s up to the CEO to communicate the purpose and focus of the executive team, and to closely monitor the team’s adherence to the purpose and focus. Like committees everywhere, left alone the team will look for things to do that seem interesting and that justify the team’s existence. Thus, purpose and focus must be carefully drawn and matched to the unique needs of the nonprofit organization. Often, projects with critical cross-functional or cross regional programs provide valuable work for the top team.

Keep team dynamics and processes positive and productive: CEOs must give “unrelenting attention” to the productive collaboration of the top staff executive team. It is all too common for executive teams to become dysfunctional over opposing priorities, entrenched thinking, competitive views, and the like. CEOs must lead their executive teams, setting the example and addressing the dynamics of their team, while dealing with concrete business issues.

With a staff executive team that is willing and able to effectively do its work, a non-profit organization can achieve a major performance improvement. For the full article, see https://www.mckinseyquarterly.com/Organization/Talent/Three_steps_to_building_a_better_top_team_2743

Apple IPhone Specifications

The Apple iPhone was officially announced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs during his keynote speech at the Macworld Expo in early 2007.

The iPhone is Apple's first move into the mobile phone industry, boasting vast multimedia features including a camera, media player and an array of internet services - the iPhone is highly anticipated.

With a scheduled US release date of June 2007 (other regions not yet confirmed), the phone will be available in two models. The first being a 4 GB model retailing at US$499 and its big brother the 8 GB model retailing at US$599.

To bring you up to speed on the Apple iPhone here's a guide to the hardware, software and the features this new Apple product has to offer.

The Full Technical Specification:

Screen size: 3.5 inches

Screen resolution: 320 by 480 at 160 ppi

Input method: Multi-touch

Operating system: OS X

Storage: 4GB or 8GB

GSM: Quad-band (MHz: 850, 900, 1800, 1900)

Wireless data: Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) + EDGE + Bluetooth 2.0

Camera: 2.0 megapixels

Battery: Up to 5 hours Talk / Video / Browsing, Up to 16 hours Audio playback

Dimensions: 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.46 inches

Weight: 4.8 ounces / 135 grams

Functionality:

The iPhone boasts a whopping 3.5-inch touch screen display designed specifically for use with your bare hands (the touch screen relies on bare skin so the need for a stylus is simply not there). To input text the iPhone uses a virtual keyboard allowing the user to quickly and easily input their desired text. As you would expect the virtual keyboard has all the functions you would expect, auto spell check, predictive text, dictionary etc.

A key feature of the iPhone's navigation and functionality is the scroll feature. Similar to the iPod scroll wheel the movement allows you to quickly and easily move through the menu's, the wheel can be "spun" by sliding a finger over the display - the faster the 'spin' the quicker the menu or item is navigated through.

Features:

As you would expect the iPhone has all the usual features you'd expect from any standard Cell phone including conferencing, call holding, call merging, caller ID, email and all the rest.

The iPhone also includes a 2 Mega Pixel built-in camera that will allow you to record and capture video and still images and using the provided software transfer these to your PC or Mac.

The most appealing feature of the iPhone is it's incorporation of its big brother the iPod MP3 player. Similar to the 5th generation of iPods the iPhone can handle video playback as well as a music library.

Online:

The iPhone also has online capabilities due to its built-in WiFi technology. With the assistance of a wireless network the iPhone can display full web pages using the Safari browser rather than simplified WAP style pages. As well as browsing the internet, the iPhone is capable of sending and receiving email thanks to its HTML email application.

Operating System:

According to Apple an optimized (slimmed down) version of the popular Mac OS X Operating system will work fine on the iPhone although they haven't as of yet gone into any specifics on this, nor has the process been officially explained.

Apple has commented in the past that OS updates for the iPhone will be very smooth and work in a similar way to the iPod and Mac OS X updates. Like the OS X Dashboard Apple revealed the iPhone will support various Widgets for example, stocks and shares and weather modules.

Miscellaneous Features:

As you would expect the iPhone features a built-in non-replaceable battery unit just like the iPod and is capable of providing up to 5 hours of video playback, voice calls or web browsing. Music playback is around the 16 hours mark.

At the end of the day, the iPhone is going to be useful to those who will use its features. With the market for Blackberries constantly on the rise and the market for iPods continually growing, I think the product that Apple are offering will be picked up and valued by a wide range of people. It converges together the practical and the fashionable, which is a very difficult thing to do. It might be a big investment, but if you are going to use it the iPhone is excellent value and a sound investment that you will find yourself turning to throughout the day for entertainment, information and more besides.

Where Can I Purchase an iPhone?

Many people dream of getting their own iPhone; however, one thing keeps them from doing so: the hefty price tag. The iPhone, especially the latest models, carry a price tag that is way above the salary of people who work regular jobs. It becomes even more difficult with the way the economy has been going. Since the iPhone is not just a simple device, it is understandable why a lot of people would want to get one for themselves. There are options, though, if you really want to get one for yourself even if your budget is not that much.

Where can I purchase an iPhone, you ask? We have all the answers for you.

Normally, the iPhone is purchased via the Apple Store. The Apple Store is your ultimate gateway to everything that is Apple. Aside from having more or less 180 stores in the United States and other parts of the world, the Apple Store also gives you an option to purchase Apple products online.

Before buying your iPhone through the Apple online store, you will be reminded to verify important information like the price listing and the possible rate plans that you can avail of. Once you are inside the online store, you will receive instructions on what to do. After you follow all the steps given, Apple will automatically sell you an iPhone. In order to maximize the use of your iPhone, it is important for you to be connected to the AT&T service that you will need for your iPhone.

Of course, since you will be buying from the Apple Store, the price range for the iPhone will not be the most practical and affordable. However, if you really want one that's practically priced, then go for other selling or auction sites like Best Buy and Craigslist.

Best Buy is an authorized iPhone seller. They have been one since 2008. The good thing about Best Buy is that they sell used iPhones during promotional activities, and these iPhones are usually sold at discount prices. There is a downside to choosing Best Buy, though. They do not have a website that sells iPhones online; so the best thing to do would be to visit any of their retail stores and purchase the iPhone there.

Another good choice if you want to purchase good quality used iPhones is Craigslist. Although this site also sells brand new items, there are people who sell their used iPhones at really affordable rates. The only thing that one should be wary of is the sellers who prefer to do shady deals with their buyers. Make sure that the seller you are buying from has a good selling reputation.

The best place, however, to purchase an iPhone is eBay. eBay has practically everything that you need! To make sure that you get the best deal out of your iPhone, there are several things that you will need to know about purchasing an iPhone (or any other product for that matter) from eBay. First of all, you must know what you want to buy. In the case of the iPhone, before deciding to go to eBay, you should have already decided if it is the 16GB locked or unlocked phone that you want. A locked phone is one that has AT&T as the sole carrier. You need to ask the seller about things like this.

When you've decided what type of iPhone you want, the next thing you should decide on is whether you want the new, refurbished or used one. Once you get to communicate with the seller, you should specify what you want clearly. By the way, you will also need to check on the reputation of the seller. eBay follows a system for rating its sellers. Check on your seller's "credentials" before finalizing anything with him. In addition to his reputation, make sure that you also take down the details for payments and return policies (if there are). Most of the time, sellers prefer to use PayPal, so you will have to open a PayPal account if you do not have one. Fear not, though, for there are also sellers who prefer to transact using other forms of payment.

In sum, getting the best iPhone deal on eBay, or from any other store or seller, really depends on you. You should have done your research before planning to purchase one. For example, if you did proper research, you will know how to differentiate the real iPhone from the fakes.

With all these choices laid out before you, buying the Apple iPhone will now become a dream come true.

It Is Better To Test Iphone Battery Before Committing To Purchasing Your Next Iphone?

Testing the iphone battery is something that requires expertise that the ordinary user of iphones may not have, which means that one is then dependent on needing to read up reviews of how well or badly does the iphone battery work. It certainly pays to do some legwork before buying your iPhone as you do not want to end up with something that is going to fall short of your expectations and which may cause you disappointment as well. Thus, before you actually purchase your iPhone makes sure to check out the many reviews that are available regarding the working of the iphone battery among other features.

Not Close To Specifications

No doubt, the specs will show a usage time that is supposed to be excellent though only actual testing will reveal the true picture about how the iphone battery functions while talking and browsing with your iPhone. Sometimes, you may find that the life of the iphone battery is not even close to the specifications mentioned in the manual.

According to experts that have checked out the Apple iphone battery life, they found that far from giving 5.5 hours of voice, it actually only did four hours and three minutes of voice, and just three hours and eleven minutes when browsing. This is well below the stated 5.5 hours and so you need to take that into account before considering your iPhone purchase.

A possible reason why the iphone battery life falls far short of its listed times could be the heavy amount of power that is consumed by its giant screen though it could also be because of improper charging of the battery and also because the batteries them are faulty. In any case, it pays to find out these things well before the actual purchase.

There is no doubting the fact that iPhone testers were less than impressed with the Apple iphone battery life, and instead of a promised eight hours of talking and six of internet use, according to tests these times were greatly exaggerated and actual battery life was no more than four to five hours, which is what you could expect from smartphones. This is a reason to be concerned because four to five hours of battery light would not serve you if you happened to be on an international journey and were in the air for ten plus hours and needed to talk to someone during the flight. It would also not be very good for watching videos that are sure to drain the iphone battery sooner than expected.

7 Things To Check Out Before Selecting An iPhone Downloads Site

You have the iphone, I have the iphone and everyone on the street has one. We bought the iphones to be one amongst all, but what should be do know? Every other person in your city, my city has one? I have found a solution to this problem. We must keep our iphones up to date with latest content such as music, movies and other iphone downloads. That said, is an task in itself to choose the right iphone downloads site because there are tons of iphone download sites out there, some genuine iphone downloads site and some fake. So, should we choose a genuine and quality iphone download site:

Service fees: This was one of my main concerns while choosing a site for iphone downloads. It is not a concern anymore as I have found a site which gives unlimited downloads for nominal fees. I have shared its review with you on my blog. There are essentially two service fees options available. One is pay a small amount of charge for each download and the other payment for iphone downloads is to pay a certain charge monthly. I personally think the second payment cycle is better? Why? Because if you are going to pay on per download basis then you will pay less at that instant but you will end up paying more in the long run. Hence I would recommend you to go for an iphone download site which has a monthly billing cycle.

Collection of files: By this I mean the variety of iphone downloads the site has for you. We are paying enough to get a wide variety of iphone downloads. So go for a site which you know has a wide variety iphone downloads (you can check the detailed review of the best iphone downloads site at my blog). The best iphone downloads site is the one which fulfils all your iphone content needs at one go. The site which I talk about on my blog has every iphone download from movies, music to videos to TV shows and everything on the earth you can imagine.

Quality downloads at fast speed: There is no use if the site has tons of content for your iphone but the downloading speed is like the walk of a turtle. To take full advantage of the database of content the iphone downloads site is providing it must have a fast download speed. The site should be such that seconds after signing up you are able to download the content you want.

Customer support: What will happen if you have downloaded the most happening iphone content for your phone but due to some error you are not able to use it? At these times you will need the customer care of the site from where you are downloading your iphone content. That means the site you are choosing for downloads should have 24 hours support to back you up in case you face any roadblocks.

Essential Softwares: It is the job of the iphone downloads site to provide you with the essential converter softwares to make each of your software compatible with your iphone. Also the iphone downloads site should provide with a suitable transfer software to transfer your content from and into your iphone.

Legality: This where most of the sites remain behind. They do not have the proper copy rights and this leads to eventually the downfall of the site and waste of your money. But this is not the problem with the site I am using. So check it out.

Healthy downloads: The content which you download for your iphone should be free from all sypwares, Trojans and other viruses. Then only it you can make you of the downloads you need.

These are all the things you should keep in site while selecting a site for iphone downloads. In short these are the features of the iphones download site I am using. You can check out the full review at my blog.

Common iPhone Complaints

Many of the iPhone reviews contain complaints about various iPhone functions that seem to not operate properly. Apple is constantly working on fixes for the iPhone challenges but there is also a vast resource of iPhone technicians and users that offer practical advice for solving the complaints about some of the functionality with the iPhone. Some of the fixes are simple, others are a bit complex, while some may be downright frustrating but anytime a company releases new technology there are bound to be bugs. The best thing for people that have purchased that technology to do is to keep up on the updates for these problems and keep reporting their problems to the manufacturer.

One of the more common iPhone complaints is that the battery is either difficult to charge or does not hold a charge for very long. This complaint is actually fairly simple to address and the solution may be as simple as a firmware upgrade to your iPhone.

The iPhone is not good with moisture and getting moisture anywhere near an iPhone is asking for trouble. If you think you may have gotten moisture on your iPhone and it has damaged your battery then you need to contact Apple to see if there is any way you can solve this problem. Apple may have a solution to offer.

In current reviews of the iPhone the battery issue has been addressed by Apple and it has been explained that the indicator icon on the iPhone screen is simply incorrectly indicating the power remaining in the iPhone battery. Apple is in the process of offering a fix for this software bug and that should eliminate many of the battery complaints associated with the iPhone.

Another common complaint about the iPhone is the frequency of dropped calls, weak reception, or slow internet access. As new technology gets rolled into the marketplace the support system around it can sometimes take a while to catch up to the technology advances of the product. In the case of the iPhone many of these dropped call and slow internet access complaints are more than likely centered on the network being put into place to support the iPhone. As the iPhone becomes more popular and more call coverage is needed the wireless iPhone network needs to expand. Expanding a wireless phone network can take some time and the real solution to these iPhone complaints is patience. The network to support the iPhone is continually being upgraded and as the upgrades are put in place the dropped calls should stop and the internet access should speed up.

Why iPhone 4 Is Good?

The iPhone 4 is one of a product designed and marketed by Apple Inc. which brings the company, the users and the world into a new dimension. There have been four generations of iPhone. The very first model of the iPhone is called iPhone. The first iPhone was released to the market in mid of 2007. The second generation is called iPhone 3G (released on mid of 2008), follow by iPhone 3GS (released on mid of 2009) and the current iPhone 4 (released on mid of 2010).

The iPhone is not a normal basic phone that you can only call and receiving a call but it is a smartphone. This meaning that iPhone is a combination of basic phone, internet and multimedia-enabled smartphone including camera, text messaging, visual voicemail, portable media player, WIFI connection, and an Internet client with email, web browsing and many more.

One of the most important selling points and dominant feature of the iPhone 4 is the Retina capacitive touch screen. This Retina screen is the sharpest, most vibrant, highest-resolution of 640 x 960 at 326 ppi with scratch-resistant glass phone screen ever. The capacitive touch screen is designed for a bare finger, or multiple fingers for multi-touch sensing. The touch and gesture features of the iPhone given not only sensitivity but the most precision finger touch input. It gives the users feeling like the iPhone is so intelligent which the iPhone knows when you want to switching/swiping between the pages only and when you want to open an application (apps).

I believe that most of you know that one of the iPhone 4 impressive capabilities is the "pinching" gesture. It zoom in and out of web pages and photos which is done by placing two fingers on the screen and spreading them farther apart or bringing them closer together. Secondly, the accuracy of text input through touching the virtual keyboard will surprise you as well. The other touch sensing feature that impressed me a lot is the Chinese characters writing. Imagine that by using a bare finger only and write a Chinese character on top of the screen, the iPhone will recognize what you wrote and give you three other alternative characters for you to choose. The accuracy meets 99%.

As described above, the iPhone 4 is a smartphone but I would like to call it a "Super Gadget". Why? It is because with the availability of the network connection, the iPhone is a phone, netbook, notebook, electronic book, pocket dictionary, multi-languages' translator, map, scientific calculator, organizer, engineering tools, portable game console, GPS device, portable media player and much more (you name it, the iPhone 4 got it). For example, it will become my netbook when there is a network connection. It is my map, GPS, compass and multi-languages' translator when travelling. It is my game console and media player when I get bored. It is my personal Bible which I carry it, and read it everyday and everywhere. It is even my "savior" on my engineering stuff like leveling equipments, engineering unit converter, scientific calculator, engineering formulas and etc. Guess what, I never get bored, lost and never bring along multi gadgets for travelling, and go shopping with my wife. What I need is just to bring along this light and handy iPhone 4.

Of course the stock iPhone 4 itself is incomplete as a "Super Gadget" but thanks to the App store with more than 200,000 apps (application), the iPhone 4 will deem to be perfect. You can either logon to the iTunes account through the iPhone or personal computer. Thus, the good thing about the iPhone 4 is that you can get the apps wherever and whenever you want. For example, assuming you are traveling and need to drive in Bangkok, Thailand but you don't know the way. So, just logon to the App store and purchase the GPS navigation app and bingo, your iPhone 4 is now a GPS navigator now. Well, the apps are varying in prices and some of the apps are even free of charge. Believe it or not, some of the free of charge apps can be very useful as well.

Last but not least, as an owner of Apple iPhone 4 myself; I strongly believe that it is an excellent smartphone ever. With one single normal smartphone price and you will get all the stuffs. So, why bother to buy additional PSP, GPS navigator, scientific calculator, MP3 player, pocket dictionary, pocket Bible, and etc. The iPhone case & accessories are very cool too. You can change all kind of iPhone cases to suit your moods, different occasion and usage. So, I definitely will stick with Apple iPhone and will continue to support it with my next and future phones.

Best regards,

Kit Chong

iPhone Downloads - Downloads for iPhone

So you've got your new iPhone and have discovered that it comes with virtually no entertainment built in. Good one Apple. After you've finished playing with all it's features your going to want to fill that flash memory with some quality Movies, Music, Videos, Games, E-Books and Software. Of course you have access to the iTunes Store which really has some great content to download, it's a great source iPhone Downloads if your made of money, and can afford to spend hundreds of dollars on individual files. Thankfully there's a more cost effective way to fill up your iPhone with all your favorite entertainment files. Unlimited iPhone Downloads for a One Time Membership fee to a specific iPhone Download Site.

These sites offer unlimited access to there millions of downloadable files for around $50 US. When you count up what it would cost to download hundreds of individual files you'll discover what a great deal these sites really offer. We've been testing the iPhone Download Sites of late and we discovered that what they have available is absolutely fantastic value for money.

All iPhone Download Sites use P2P sharing networks as their file source. These networks consist of millions of users all sharing files. Beware of any article that suggests they know of a site that doesn't use P2P sharing. They are 'full of it' and misleading you. I've seen some articles that tell you that P2P sites need to be avoided and then have a link to a P2P site? Why would someone deliberately mislead you? They probably have no idea what their talking about and haven't done any real testing or genuine reviewing. There is no way to avoid P2P based iPhone Download Sites as they all use this form of system. Also be aware the legality of P2P sharing lies with you not to download copyright material. There is not one iPhone Download site that is any more legal than another. Read their disclaimers, they're all the same.

To begin your unlimited download journey you start by paying a joining fee to one of these sites and then you have instant access to their data bases. You'll never pay another cent after that and there are no restrictions on your iPhone Downloads. You have access to just about any file you can possibly think of. As part of the membership you will be supplied the necessary software to search and download the files you find. You also will be supplied the software for converting these files to the correct iPhone format. Most sites will have separate software available for both Mac and PC. Transferring of the files to your iPhone is still taken care of by iTunes, which is about the only thing I suggest you use it for.

Quality of the files is excellent and you will always find more than one file choice for what your searching for. Always try and choose the iPhone ready file and then you can save yourself some converting time. To do this I always include the term 'iPhone' in my search to see what's available in the 'iPhone ready' format before going any further with my search. These sites also supply all the necessary converting software as part of your membership which is great for converting your own DVD's into iPhone format as well. When searching also look for files that have good 'health'. This means there are plenty of hosts for that file and this will ensure the fastest possible download speeds. Even with the fastest broadband connection video and movie file will still take at least a few hours to download.

Another important factor to take into consideration is the Technical Support on hand. All the sites we recommend on our review page have excellent customer service which can be invaluable if you run into trouble. Most iPhone Download sites do have tutorials to get you started but some are better than others. It's always good to know that prompt, reliable help, is only an email away.

I guess the best feature of these sites is the Money Back Guarantee. Not that of them honour their statement of returning your membership fee if your not satisfied but the sites we recommend certainly do. We've tested them on it. Having a Guarantee you can fall back on can give you real peace of mind. You can virtually try these sites for your iPhone Downloads risk fee.

When it comes to iPhone Downloads there is no better way to fill your beloved device with all your favorite Video and Music than joining one of these unlimited access sites. What they have on offer is just great value for money.

Mark Frahm and assosciates have spent a great deal of time testing iPhone Download Sites in a quest to find the best deals available to iPhone users. Please visit our review site to see what we discovered. [http://www.downloadsfortheiphone.com]

Replacing an iPhone 3G Logic Board

With the iPhone quickly becoming the most popular smart phone in the Unites States, many users are starting to encounter problems that go along with the combination of the normal wear and tear to which cell phones are exposed and the somewhat fragile makeup of touch screen smart phones like the iPhone. As a result, a burgeoning market of iPhone repair services has appeared, saving many people the pain and costs associated with replacing an iPhone when only a single part requires replacement.

One of the more commonly replaced parts is the iPhone 3G logic board. The iPhone 3G logic board is to the iPhone what a motherboard is to a personal computer; in fact, all Apple computers use the term logic board to describe their equivalent of a motherboard. Like a motherboard, it essentially acts as the heart of an Apple computer or an iPhone, meaning that this is one of, if not the single most important part of an iPhone.

For many years Apple computers were designed to offer a logic board upgrade, which entailed a customer bringing their Mac into a dealer where it would be replaced with a newer version, essentially transforming the computer into a rough equivalent of the newest Macs on the market. This point is significant because it demonstrates the fact that the replacement of an iPhone 3G logic board is a fairly common procedure and one that was intended as a possibility when Apple designed iPhones, Macs, and other electronic devices like iPods.

When an iPhone 3G logic board has been damaged, users will likely be unable to access any functioning screen on their iPhone. In many instances, a destroyed board will result in an iPhone displaying a screen that demonstrates that the battery is being charged, followed by a blank white screen, or the inability of users to turn their iPhone on at all. While many users assume that this is an indication of a lethal problem for their iPhone, prompting them to simply discard their phone, users should always consult an iPhone repair expert prior to throwing their phone away.

This is especially true if the iPhone in question is in good working condition. Many times, a single (albeit severe) drop can damage a logic board, meaning that a discarded iPhone may be in perfect condition, with the exception of the damaged board. By consulting the advice of an iPhone repair specialist, users with a damaged iPhone 3G logic board can save hundreds of dollars by having it replaced rather than replacing the entire iPhone.

In fact, for technically savvy iPhone users, the replacement of an iPhone 3G logic board is a do-it-yourself procedure that deserves some consideration. With a number of used iPhone parts dealers available, and the wealth of information of the internet, many users will be able to purchase a replacement board and perform the installation themselves. At the end of the day, regardless of who performs the replacement, the fact that even a part as important as the logic board can be changed out means that iPhone users should always look into replacement parts before throwing their phones away, as it will save them money and cut down on waste, a win-win situation.

Does The Apple iPhone Measure Up To Its Hype?

The hype machine for the Apple iPhone was in full swing right up to its official launch on June 29, 2007. During the run up to its launch, Apple shrewdly whetted the public's appetite for the iPhone by showing off it's alluring design while keeping many details about the iPhone shrouded in mystery. So what is the iPhone exactly and more importantly, is it all Apple says it is?

The Apple iPhone is actually three devices in one: a cell phone, a wide screen iPod, and a wireless Internet device. It measures in at 4.5" x 4" x 0.46" and weighs in at 4.8 ounces. Not exactly small, but the iPhone has a pretty slim profile, which further adds to its appeal.

The core of the Apple iPhone is its 3.5" touch screen. The touch screen of the iPhone has caused more than a little controversy. A touch screen provides no tactile feedback, which can make users less secure about what they enter on it. Apple is confident that once users get accustomed to the iPhone's touch screen then all will be good. However, hardcore critics remain unconvinced that the touch screen will be without its problems. The area of greatest concern is users who rely heavily on texting. Will they be able to whip out short text messages on the iPhone's touch screen without stumbling?

The Apple iPhone of course is also an iPod, which will play both MP3 music files downloaded from iTunes as well as video files. The iPhone syncs like an iPod to either a Mac or a PC. However, users will not be able to wirelessly download files from iTunes. This will require a physical connection to a computer.

The cell phone portion of the iPhone supports quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900), thus making it a true "world phone" capable of working in the US, Europe, and Asia. On the data side, the iPhone uses 2.5G EDGE technologies. However, the multimedia features of the iPhone would be better served by the broadband capabilities of 3G networks, such as UMTS and HSDPA, which interestingly enough, AT&T now supports. One saving grace is that the iPhone will come with built-in WiFi to access high-speed Internet connections.

The iPhone's battery is rated for 8 hours of talk time and 6 hours of Internet use. The battery talk time was initially rated for 5 hours, but was upgraded by Apple prior to release of the iPhone. This will make it the longest lasting cell phone battery second only to some Sony Ericsson cell phones. The iPhone is rated for 24 hours of audio playback and the battery can retain its charge in standby mode for up to 10 days.

Additional features include a 2 Mega-pixel digital, which is a high enough resolution to produce some crisp digital photos. The iPhone also supports BlueTooth technology. A feature that the iPhone will not support initially is GPS. This may disappoint some potential customers, but a workable alternative is to access Google Maps via the built-in Safari browser for your navigation needs.

A particularly cool feature of the iPhone, that may also prove to be very functional, is a series of built-in sensors that detect how you're holding the iPhone. A proximity sensor knows when you bring the phone to your ear and will dim the screen and shut off the touch screen. There's an ambient light sensor that adjusts brightness to save battery power, and there's even an accelerometer that knows when to switch between landscape and portrait mode. Pretty slick, huh?

As of this writing, it's not possible to say for sure how the Apple iPhone will catch on with consumers. However, given Apple's track record for producing life-changing products such as the Mac and iPod, as well as a brilliantly executed marketing campaign, the smart money is on the Apple iPhone being a huge seller, perhaps in the same league as the iPod.

Do We Need to Raise Taxes?

At the New York Times Economix blog, Princeton Professor Uwe E. Reinhardt argues that higher taxes are necessary to restore the United States to fiscal health. He begins with a chart from the Brookings Institution showing that the federal budget deficit for the next ten years is almost exclusively a result of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts and the lost revenue and increased demand for social services that resulted from the 2008 recession. He sees the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts as symptoms of a long-term willingness on the part of the American people to embrace tax cuts and new spending programs (Reinhardt notes the trillion-dollar Medicare prescription drug plan as an example of the later).

As a solution, he echoes the former conservative chair of the federal reserve Alan Greenspan who argues that to afford the government that most Americans now expect requires returning to 1990s-era tax rates, which would mean increasing taxes on all who pay income taxes. Such a solution is politically problematic as it violates President Obama's campaign promise not to raise income taxes on low and middle-income Americans and Republicans opposition to any tax increases.

Finally, Reinhardt notes that the United States is currently a low-tax nation by the standards of developed nations. The average nation in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) collects 44.8% of GDP as tax revenue; the United States collects just 26.1% (although it must be admitted that in other wealthy countries, the government pays for healthcare and higher education: large expenses for most Americans). Finally he confronts the idea that higher taxes impede economic growth, charting economic growth by noting that over the past ten years, there has been little evidence for that idea suggested by a transnational comparison of wealthy countries (although there are many problems with using this as any sort of definitive proof of the relationship between tax rates and growth).

What to Expect in Future Editions of the iPhone

The iPhone is one of the hot technology commodities of today; if you don't have one of them or at least a similar product, then you're considered to be out of the electronic loop. It should be no surprise, then, that so many people are interested to hear about the latest edition of the iPhone. People want to know what's happening in the world of personal electronics and smart phones, and the additions to the iPhone are usually met with a high level of scrutiny from the true iPhone fans. Some people hope to see features they've always advocated; others simply want to know how much cheaper and older iPhone might get.

So what will really go on in the world of the iPhone in the future? Let's take a closer look.

The Immediate Future of the iPhone.

According to USAToday, the new iPhone will include an upgrade to its operating system that could allow for better and higher-level multitasking: this is much more similar to a computer than the iPhone has been in the past. This will also move the iPhone closer to the iPad in terms of sheer operating system performance, further blurring the line between smart phone and computer.

Since Apple releases these updates on a regular basis, we know that the previous editions of the iPhones will decline in price as they "cool off" in their status as hot commodities. What does this mean for the average consumer? Basically, every time you see a new edition of the iPhone, you should either be looking for the previously-new editions to be sold on the "used" market (think Craigslist and eBay.com), or for even older versions to become far cheaper. If you're an avid "used" consumer who loves to find the latest details, we probably don't have to tell you about the impact a new release like a new edition of the iPhone could have.

For the people who always buy new iPhones, you an also expect upgraded and further-expanded features as is the norm: more space, more performance. If you use your previous iPhone so much that you're starting to push its limits, you should be happy to see a new, expanded iPhone to be released on the market.

The Long-Term Future of the iPhone

What kind of impact does one release of the iPhone have on the future of the iPhone? In our opinion, it's not as much as you might think. New editions of the iPhone come out regularly and are essentially ways Apple can keep up with the competition. In many ways, Apple continues to exceed them. But the long-term future of the iPhone is more attached to global technology trends and innovations that might be outside of the range of an iPhone to affect. For example, the release of the Apple iPad might have had a much larger impact on the iPhone itself than any release of the iPhone since the very first iPhone was put on the market. This means that if you want to watch the future of the iPhone, you shouldn't only examine the iPhone's improvement in a bubble.

It's hard to say at this point that a small electronic device that allows you to have all of the functions of a computer and the communications capabilities of a phone won't exactly go out of style until human beings have something drastically better, such as...what, telepathy? So if you're an avid iPhone fan who can't get enough of the latest editions and the latest improvements, be happy that Apple is putting out its latest addition to the market. After all, until we develop telepathy technology, this is what you're, uh, "stuck" with.
