Stock Market Slumps Following Negative Economic Reports

Stocks on Wall Street went down more than 2 percent and Treasury yields fell on Wednesday, following the release of economic statistics that "sent a bleak picture of the employment and manufacturing sectors," as reported by the New York Times. According to ADP Employer Services, the payroll processing firm, private employers added only 38,000 jobs in May, a figure much lower than what had been expected and the smallest since September 2010.

Economists had anticipated the addition of over 175,000 private sector jobs, and some speculated that the unexpectedly low number was influenced by recent storms that led automobile manufacturers--faced with a disrupted supply chain--to temporarily lay off workers. The Dow Jones industrial average had gone down 279.65, points, or 2.22%; Standard & Poor's 500-stock index 30.65 points, or 2.28%; and the Nasdaq composite index had fallen 66.11 points, or 2.33%, at Wednesday's close.

Nonfarm payroll employment figures for May will be released by the government Friday.

How To Put Limewire Music, Youtube & Google Video, or DVD Video to iPhone

1. Put music and videos from Limewire to iPhone

Limewire is a download tool I assume lot of us use. I often use it to download free music and videos and put them on my iPhone. If you don't have Limewire, you can download it from its official website.

Search and download songs from Limewire. You may get songs in all sorts of formats, but not all formats are supported by iPhone. Usually I select three formats: MP3, AAC and M4A formats that are supported by iPhone and can be directly transferred to iPhone using iTunes. You can visit the official website of Apple for the detailed specs info for iPhone. After you download the songs, open your iTunes, click "File" from the upper left corner, select "Add file to library", browse your computer hard drive and find the songs downloaded by Limewire, select the songs you prefer, click OK and the songs will be put in your iTunes. Then you can just transfer the songs to your iPhone from iTunes.

2. Youtube video to iPhone

I often visit Youtube to watch videos on iPhone and sometimes I download videos which cannot be found on iPhone from Youtube to put on my iPhone. Youtube videos are in FLV formats, so I use a free online FLV converter to do the conversion.

Firstly, go to Youtube and open the page of the video you want to put on your iPhone. And you will find the Youtube URL of this video to the right of the playback window. Then copy this URL.

Secondly, go to vixy.net , paste the copied URL into the URL field of this web page, and select "MP4 for iPod/PSP" from the "Converts to" drop-down list. (iPod Video could also be used on iPhone. This will save you a lot effort if you have many iPod videos.) Then click "Start" below this list to start the conversion.

Finally, after the conversion, this website will provide a download link for you to download the converted MP4 file. When you see the link, you can just download the final file from the link, save the downloaded MP4 file on your computer and use iTunes to sync it on to your iPhone.

Here you can get a free resource website list which has free stream video you can download for free.

3. Google Videos on iPhone

Because Google allows you to download (most) videos from their site in an iPhone compatible format, all you need to do is download that version of the video. To do this, pull up Google Video and search for a video as you normally would. When you actually get to the video, you're not going to see much. To play the video, click the little select list on the right and select "Video iPod/Sony PSP" and press "Done". Press download and the video will come up shortly. Simple, right?

4. DVD/Video to iPhone

I have a huge collection of DVD movies and video files. And I always put a few movies on my iPhone to kill time while I'm on the subway/bus.

DVD movies cannot be transferred to iPhone via iTunes directly, so I had to find a converter to do that. I have used a few converters and the one I am using now is Wondershare DVD to iPhone Converter. It is not free, but not expensive either. I decided to spend the money coz it does a good job on the final quality and conversion speed. And if I don't want to put a whole movie, I can just convert part of a movie onto my iPhone with this app. My OS is Windows, so I use the Windows version. If you are using a Mac OS, I have noticed that they have a Mac DVD to iPhone converter that you can try, which I don't know if is as good because I don't have Mac OS.

Most of my video files are not MP4 formats that can be directly used on iPhone, so I also bought the iPhone Video Converter from the same company coz I thought it would also be nice app, and it turned out to be so great! Actually, this video converter and the DVD converter are pretty much the same as far as the functions and the operational steps are concerned, and the only difference to me is that one is to convert DVDs and the other is to convert video files. Meanwhile, these programs are all able to work for iPod and Apple TV; this will save you some bulks if you happen to have an iPhone or an Apple TV. If you also want a video to iPhone converter, you can just download a trial version to see if it is what you need. Unfortunately, they don't have a Mac version for video converters.

5. Sync music and videos to iPhone

So far, using iTunes to sync files to iPhone is the only choice we can make. I use iTunes too but I have found it a bit clunky. So let me show how to sync music and videos.

Select the audio/video files you want to sync from your iTunes library, drag them under "PLAYLISTS", and a new playlist will be created with all the selected files in it. Then you can click the Music menu tab, check the "Selected playlists" option, and select the newly created playlist to sync.

If you want to remove the files, just uncheck the box and you will find the way.

The above is my experience with converting and transferring files from various sources to my iPhone, and I hope it can shed some light.

Most Working Americans Expect to Continue Work Beyond Retirement Age

According to recent Gallup polling, 8 in 10 employed Americans expect to continue working full or part time after reaching retirement age, with more of them claiming they will continue work because they "want to" (44%) rather than they "have to" (36%). The expectation among a large majority (63%) of workers is that they will work part time beyond their retirement age, as opposed to full time (18%) or stopping work altogether (18%).

Workers' expectations for their level of employment after retirement age appear to be connected to how optimistically they view their financial futures. Writes Gallup: "Those who expect to work full time are twice as likely to say they will do so out of need rather than as a choice." But those who say they will stop working "overwhelmingly say it is because they want to," and workers who expect to work part time are more likely to say it is because they want to work, rather than have to.
And although upper-income workers--those with an annual household income of $75,000 or larger--are "somewhat" less likely than middle- and lower-income workers to expect continued work after retirement age, a large majority of all income groups holds that expectation. Only 23% of upper-income workers and 13% of middle- and lower-income workers expect to stop working after retirement age.

Gallup suggests that the poll results reflect larger changes in the economy and how older Americans approach the concept of retirement, writing: "The current expectation among today's workers that they will continue working once they reach retirement age underscores the changing nature of the retirement landscape in the United States, partly because of changes in the economics of retirement and partly because of individuals' desired level of activity in retirement."

Catastrophic fall in labor force in the U.S.

Labor force in the U.S. experiences unprecedented fall. With total population growing at a healthy pace of ~1% per year, the number of people in labor force has been physically decreasing since 2009. The reason behind this effect is the labor force participation rate, LFP, plummeting down. Figure 1 shows that LFP dropped from 66.4% in 2008 to 63.9% in the first quarter of 2011. This 2.5% is equivalent to 6,000,000 people out of the working force in 2011 relative to 2008.  Event the growth in the total working age population from 235,000,000 to 239,000,000 has failed to compensate the fall in the LFP. Figure 2 shows that the decline in the labor force, LF, is a unique feature since the very beginning of observations in 1948.  Except the current fall, there were only two short intervals with dLF/LFdt<0 after WWII, in 1951 and 1962, as Figure 3 shows.

The negative growth rate of labor force is the cause of a higher rate of unemployment and lower rate of price inflation. It should be noted that we predicted the current decline in the LFP many years ago.
However, the fall in LFP is not the cause but a consequence of the low rate of real GDP  (per capita) growth after 2008. When the growth rate of real GDP per capita regains its normal pace of 2% per years the LFP will start to increase, with a two-year delay.

Although the iPhone is considerably new, there are some great, exceptional quality iPhone cases in the market today. These Apple iPhone Cases, range from cool to hip to suave and stylish. One such iPhone case would be the OtterBox Defender iPhone Case.

Well known for being the makers of waterproof, tough cases for iPods, mobile phones, PDAs as well as something like the cigar case; it is not surprising that OtterBox has a case for the Apple iPhone.

Unlike other iPhone cases, the OtterBox Defender iPhone Case provides complete control over the user interactivity and enables users to operate the iPhone volume controls, touch screen and camera functions. This semi-rugged yet sleek and 4.81" x 2.675" x .76" slim case is water-resistant and hence safeguards the iPhone from outside detrimental conditions. Although not 100% waterproof, the OtterBox iPhone Case is effectual in protection from precipitation or a slight drizzle. When you are on the move and wish to take your iPhone along, you need not take the case off. The OtterBox Defender has a holster and clip, which comes handy (in the true sense) and still protects your iPhone whether you have to shovel through a crowd or catch the next train. Even the very thought of dropping the iPhone brings a chill to many. Least you would want to do is drop it.

This particular case by OtterBox accommodates some of the major Apple iPhone models like the 4GB, 8GB and the hefty 16GB Apple iPhones. In comparison to other iPhone cases that block the interactivity with the iPhone, the OtterBox Defender Case provides you complete access to the touch interface through a patented touch screen membrane while safeguarding the iPhone. The OtterBox has not one, not two but 3 Layers of Protection. Whether you are using the iPhone or it's lying idle, the protective surfaces work as a shield, covering the iPhone at all times. The external covering is made of silicone, which is fitting for safeguarding the iPhone from all bumps and drops.

Apart from this, the iPhone comes along with a sync/ charge, and a jack for the headphone. You can get easy access to the sleep/wake, home buttons, volume controls and the proximity sensor through the case. The case also has a swivel belt clip that offers full impact protection to the delicate screen.

For a reasonable price of $49.95, by far, this is the best among the iPhone cases available in the market at HandStands.com. However, you should take not of the fact that the case would work only with the Apple iPhone and is not compatible with the Apple iPod Touch.
