Released in 1993 as a single and was part of their eighth album "Automatic for the People" released in 1992. Track peaked at #3 on the French Singles Chart, #6 on Australian and Irish Singles Charts, #7 on the UK Singles Chart and #29 on Billboard's Hot 100.
Track was included in "In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988–2003" and "R.E.M. Live."
Track was covered by numerous artist including Paul Anka, Joe Crocker, The Corrs, Dashboard Confessional, DJ Sammy and Patti Smith. Track was covered by The Coconutz for the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Ariane Moffat for the TV series Trauma.
In 2010, track was used to raise money for the victims for the 2010 Haiti earthquake. Artist who performed the track includes Rod Stewart, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Jon Bon Jovi, James Blunt, Leona Lewis, Cheryl Cole, Michael Buble and Mariah Carey.
